GNE Ludhiana | Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College Ludhiana

Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, LUDHIANA was estabished by the Nankana Sahib Educaion Trust [NSET]. NSET was founded in memory of the most sacred temple of Nankana Sahib, birth place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Shiromani Guurdwara Prabhandak Committee, Amirtsar, a premeir organisation of universal bortherhood, was the main force behind the mission of 'Removal of Economic Backwardness through Technology'. With this mission, a Polytechnic was started in 1953 and Guru Nanak Dev Engg. College was established in 1956. The Trust deed was registered on 24th February 1953 with a committment by The Nankana Sahib Education Trust to uplift the vast weaker section of Indian polity comprising Rural India by admitting 70% students every year from Rural Areas. This committment was made to the nation on 8th April, 1956. The day when foundation stone of the College Building was laid by Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad Ji, the First President of India. Nearly 10,000 graduate and 300 Post Graduate Engineers have passed out from this college during the last 50 years and are at present successfully employed in India & abroad.The college is now ISO 9001-2000 Certified ,NBA accredited and have signed MoU with IOWA University [USA] for exchange of students and faculty.

CAMPUS

Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College campus is spread over 88 acres of prime land about 5 Kms from Bus Stand and 8 Kms from Ludhiana Railway Station on Ludhiana-Malerkotla Road. The college campus is well planned with beautifully laid out tree plantation,pathways,flowerbeds besides the well maintained sprawling lawns all around. It has beautiful building for College,Hostels,Swimming Pool,Sports and Gymnasium Hall Complex,Gurduwara Sahib,Bank,Dispensery,Post Office etc. There are two hostels for boys and one for girls with total accomodation of about 550 students.These hostels are provided with all amenities and basic services.The greenery of the campus is remarkable and special care taken to preserve it.

The College was initially started with three conventional degree level engineering courses only i.e. Civil, Mechanical and Electrical. The College has kept pace with the unending fast expansion in the field of engineering. Degree courses in Electronics & Communication Engg. and Production were started in 1981, 1986 respectively. Another two courses in emerging branches of engineering i.e. CSE & IT were introduced in 1997 and 2001 respectively. Christian Medical College Ludhiana

The Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, India was the first medical school for women in Asia. It was founded by Dame Edith Mary Brown. It became officially recognized by the government in 1915.

The Medical Missionary work was started in Ludhiana in the year 1881 by the Greenfield sisters, Miss Martha Rose and Miss Kay Greenfield. They were Evangelists and Educationalists from Scotland. This pioneering medical work of the Greenfield sisters was the precursor of the Medical Training and Health Care Service Programme of the present Christian Medical College, Ludhiana.

The Greenfield sisters and their associates organized the Health Care Educational Services in which endeavour Dr. Edith Mary Brown joined them in 1893 and in 1894 the North Indian School of Medicine for Christian Women was started by Dr. Edith Mary Brown and her colleagues with the object of training Indian nationals particularly the women, to serve in the field of Medical education and Health Care Services, emphasizing integration of training and health care services. The period from 1894 to 1952 has been an epoch making era which saw the landmark of development from its beginning as a School of Medicine for Christian Women to Women’s Christian Medical College until 1952 when the name was changed to Christian Medical College to enable it to admit both men and women students for the upgraded MBBS course which came into effect for its first admission from 1953. The College was affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh. The Medical School granted LSMF diploma till 1952. Since the College was upgraded to M.B.B.S in 1953, more than 2000 candidates have graduated and these graduates are serving in different parts of India & the world.

Our national medical and para-medical teaching staff and other staff come from nearly every state in India. The Government of India and Punjab have continued their interest and support in the work and the development of the college and its hospital.

In 1953 the college started the MBBS program affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh admitting men and women students. Since July 1999 the college has been affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The Post-graduate program started in the Sixties. The college offers Post-graduate Diploma, Degree, Super specialty and Doctoral courses.

Ludhiana Stock Exchange Association Limited (LSE)

Ludhiana Stock Exchange Association Limited (LSE) was established in the year 1983. By 1999-2000, the exchange had a total of 284 brokers, out of which 79 were corporate brokers. Among 284 brokers, it was further classified as 212 proprietor broker, 2 partnership broker and 70 corporate broker. Then, there was only 23 sub-brokers registered.

Ludhiana Stock Exchange became the second bourse in India to introduce modified carryforward system after BSE on April 6, 1998. On the same date, LSE also introduced a settlement guarantee fund (SGF). The SGF guarantees settlement of transactions and the carryforward facility provides liquidity to the market.

LSE became the first in India to start LSE Securities Ltd., a 100% owned subsidiary of the exchange. The LSE Securities got the ticket as sub-broker of the NSE. In 1998, the exchange also got permission to start derivative trading.

For the settlement of dematerialised securities, the Ludhiana Stock Exchange has also been linked up with National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL).

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, Punjab

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, Punjab is one of the State Agricultural Universities in India. It was established in 1962 and is the oldest agricultural university in India after GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. It has a international reputation for excellence in agriculture due the level of awards it has won and achievements made throughout its history, particularly during India's Green revolution. It pioneered the Green Revoulution in India in 1960s and is considered as one of the best agricultural universities in Asia. It was bifurcated in 2005 with the formation of Guru Angad Dev veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The reputed Vice-Chancellor Dr.KS Aulakh has recently resigned under dramatic situations with alleged political pressures by the state government which were "against the welfare of university".

There is also a cycling velodrome, an astroturf field for hockey, and a stadium for various sports.
